Reader Q and A – Dining Room Space Planning

Dining-room-space-planning

Hello , I have 9′ ceilings in my 12×11 Dining Room. Would it be OK to purchase an antique cabinet that is only 12″ from the ceiling (5′x8′x19″deep) !  I have floor to ceiling windows.  I love this piece but wanted to make sure it didn’t overwhelm the room!
Thank you
Tonja

This is the China cabinet at the antique shop which Tonja is debating on whether to purchase.

The chairs against the wall represent where the cabinet will sit.  There are 30 inches on either side…

It is fine to place a china cabinet in this room that is 12″ below the ceiling.  Utilizing a floor plan that is to-scale greatly helps with determining what pieces of furniture will fit in the dining room.   I can see a round dining table working best with this floor plan.  Tonja has just enough space to add the antique china cabinet she wants to purchase…

A floor plan to scale helps determine in advance what pieces of dining room furniture will fit in the room

She can even utilitze a larger table with 2-4 more chairs…

Even a larger table that fits 2-4 more chairs would work in this room with the china cabinet.
